Kilimanjaro Itinery (Days 3 & 4)……

Day 3    (23rd February 2012)

With minimal altitude gain this won’t be the toughest of days but provides an excellent opportunity to allow the acclimatisation process to kick in.

Rather than opting for the direct route across we will be following the southern edge of the plateau allowing us to take in the Shira Cone, Shira Needle and the Shira Cathedral (so even if you did manage to get lost you’ll be in no dougbt that it’s the SHIRA plateau that you are on)!

The next camp is at Shira Hut 3,840m. Close to the glaciated Dome and to the edge of the Shira Plateau with tremendous views on to Mt Meru.

Altitude Gain: 290m Hours Walking: 5-7hrs Sleep at: 3,840m

Day 4    (24th February 2012)

Today we branch off from the Lemosho route instead following the quieter Northern Circuit.

The morning will be spent making our way to the campsite at Moir Hut 4,200m, possible the quietest campsite on the mountain and set in a lovely sheer sided valley.

After lunch there there will be an afternoon acclimatisation walk onto the Lent Hills a rarely visited area of the mountain boasting a 4,700m summit.

Altitude gain:860m Hours Walking: 4-7hrs Sleep at: 4,200m
